ABOUT NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, also known as the NDIS, is a program run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) which provides funds for Australians who were either born with or acquire a permanent and significant disability. It gives financial and practical assistance to those who have a lifelong health problem which has a large impact on their everyday activities.

There are two main streams for the NDIS which are dealt with by slightly different community partners:

  • Local Area Coordinator partners: who deal with people between the ages of 7 and 64 who are suffering from a disability.
  • Early Childhood partners: who deal with children under the age of 7 who are suffering from a disability, along with their carers/guardians.
